No organic substances are added to these products, thus making them compatible with sulfuric acid charring visualization. These plates are commonly scraped from the glass backing to isolate separated components for other analytical procedures. They are compatible with all organic solvents however, they are not recommended for use in systems containing greater than 20% water because of the solubility of the gypsum binder in aqueous solutions. The "G" stands for Gypsum and indicates that calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CaSO4·1/2H2O), a refined form of gypsum, has been included in the adsorption formulation. Gypsum functions as a binder, improving the cohesion of the adsorbent particles and increasing the adhesion of the layer to the glass substrate.

"Silica G" is a standard grade, unmodified Silica 60 with a surface area of 500 m2/g, mean pore size of 60A, specific pore volume of 0.75 ml/g, and particle size of 5-17um. The TLC plates contain UV254 fluorescent indicator. This analytical soft layer is bound to a plastic support. It has a thickness of 200um and dimensions of 2.5x7.5cm. There are 200 plates per pack.

Cellulose 300 with UV254, aluminum backed TLC plates. The coating thickness is 100um and dimensions are 20x20cm. There are 25 plates per pack. Applications include: partition chromatography of polar substances such as amino acids, carboxylic acids or carbohydrates. Cellulose is especially used for partition chromatographic separations of polar substances such as amino acids and other carboxylic acids or carbohydrates. Compared to paper chromatography (PC) thin layer chromatography, cellulose offers shorter migration times and more concentrated substance spots resulting in a higher detection sensitivity. TLC plates (CEL 300) are coated with native, fibrous cellulose.
